In a significant verdict delivering justice in a heinous crime, a special POCSO court in Uttar Pradesh has sentenced a 50-year-old man to life imprisonment for the gang-rape of a 14-year-old Dalit minor. The court pronounced the judgment, also slapping a fine of one lakh rupees on the primary convict, Mahavir Yadav, while another accused was acquitted due to a lack of sufficient evidence.
The Brutal Incident In the Fields
According to the prosecution, the horrifying incident occurred at around 11:00 AM when the 9th-grade student had taken her cattle to the fields. The accused reportedly waylaid the minor and subjected her to gang-rape despite her stiff resistance. The perpetrators also threatened the victim with dire consequences for her family if she dared to speak about the ordeal.
Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The victim remained tight-lipped out of fear until her mother discovered a digital recording of the assault days later, prompting an immediate police complaint. Medical examinations corroborated the sexual assault, enabling investigators to build a watertight chargesheet against the accused individuals.
Special Public Prosecutor Shailendri Rajput presented crucial witness testimonies and documentary evidence before the court. Following detailed arguments from both sides, the judge convicted Mahavir Yadav, sentencing him to rigorous life imprisonment, while the co-accused Navichand Yadav was acquitted.
