A major scandal has rocked the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly secretariat after allegations emerged that people were duped of lakhs of rupees under the pretext of securing government jobs. Shubham Soni, a peon employed at the assembly secretariat, has been accused of taking heavy sums of money while falsely invoking the name of the Assembly Speaker to build trust among job seekers. A video capturing a street confrontation over the unfulfilled promises and demands for refunds has gone viral on social media.
A Wait of One and a Half Years and Public Outrage
According to the victims, they had handed over money to Shubham Soni in hopes of securing stable government positions within the assembly secretariat. However, even after waiting for more than a year and a half, no jobs were provided, forcing the victims to demand their money back.
The situation boiled over when victims confronted Shubham Soni on the streets, leading to a heated argument and physical scuffle. The dramatic video of the incident quickly circulated across various social media platforms, drawing widespread attention and raising serious questions about internal security and corruption.
Misuse of High-Profile Names to Build Trust
One of the most concerning aspects of the fraud is that the accused allegedly used the clout and name of Assembly Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar to convince aspirants of his influence. Victims stated that whenever they asked for their refunds after failing to secure jobs, they were met with evasive tactics and intimidation.
Swift Action by the Assembly Secretariat
Taking immediate cognizance of the viral video and mounting public pressure, the public relations branch of the MP Legislative Assembly Secretariat swung into action. An official order confirmed that charges of taking money in exchange for government jobs against peon Shubham Soni have been formally registered.
The secretariat revealed that Shubham had previously been issued show-cause notices for undesirable activities, but his conduct failed to improve. Citing gross negligence towards official duties and a violation of Rule 3 of the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Conduct) Rules, 1965, the authorities placed him under suspension with immediate effect.
