INDIA bloc MPs and opposition leaders led by Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi staged a vociferous protest in New Delhi, demanding accountability from the Election Commission. The leaders were marching towards Jantar Mantar when security forces intercepted and blocked their buses, citing the implementation of Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), leading to high drama and tensions.

Following the police action, Rahul Gandhi took to social media platform X to express his gratitude to every opposition MP standing firm for democracy. He asserted that while authorities could stop a physical march or deny meetings, they could never break the unwavering willpower of the people and the opposition.

Priyanka Gandhi Sits On Street With Constitution Copy

Heavy security barricades were put up near the Shangri-La Hotel on Ashoka Road, roughly a kilometer away from Jantar Mantar. As police prevented the buses from moving further, leaders disembarked and began shouting slogans. Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra staged a sit-in protest on the street holding a copy of the Indian Constitution, while several other leaders joined her in defiance.

Following the escalated protests and brief standoffs with law enforcement, Delhi Police detained Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, and other prominent opposition figures, taking them to a police station in central Delhi.
