Amid continuing discussions over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, a major political controversy has erupted in Uttar Pradesh. The Samajwadi Party (SP) has claimed to have uncovered thousands of duplicate and fraudulent voters following a detailed scrutiny of electoral rolls across 100 assembly constituencies. According to the opposition party, the names of identical individuals appear repeatedly across polling stations under different voter identification (EPIC) numbers, raising serious doubts about electoral transparency.
Delegation Submits Detailed Memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer
Acting on the instructions of party chief Akhilesh Yadav, a senior delegation of Samajwadi Party leaders met with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and submitted a comprehensive memorandum. The delegation, which included K.K. Srivastava, Dr. Harishchandra Singh Yadav, and Radheshyam Singh, placed official documentation before election authorities highlighting stark anomalies in the rolls. The leaders stressed that allowing duplicate voters to remain on the register directly compromises the integrity of democratic elections.
Single Individuals Registered with Multiple Voter IDs
In the dossier presented to the commission, the party provided specific booth-level instances where single individuals were assigned multiple distinct EPIC numbers. The party alleged that in several locations, the exact same person was listed up to three or four times with slightly altered credentials. SP leaders highlighted cases of young voters being registered across different polling stations, questioning how such entries slipped past administrative checks during the revision process.
Demand for Immediate Physical Verification and Deletion
Challenging the efficacy of the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise, the Samajwadi Party urged the poll body to undertake door-to-door physical verification of every flagged entry. The party demanded that all fraudulent and duplicate voter entries be purged from the system ahead of forthcoming electoral contests to guarantee free and fair voting.
