The Lekhpal Association in Uttar Pradesh has escalated its protest against the government over eight pending demands, including salary anomalies, transfers, and promotions. After boycotting online services and official WhatsApp groups, the association has called for a statewide complete work boycott, severely affecting tehsil-level operations and issuance of crucial documents for citizens.
Key Demands: Pay Anomalies and Promotions
Among the primary demands is the revision of the initial pay scale to Level-5/Grade Pay 2800, which has been pending since 2017. The association highlights that despite submitting applications for inter-divisional transfers, a large number of employees remain posted hundreds of kilometers away from their home districts. Furthermore, the promotion lists for the designated recruitment years have not been released despite completion of departmental procedures.
Basic Infrastructure and Allowances
The union has also demanded an increase in stationery, travel, and special allowances, alongside proper infrastructure at village secretariats including computers, internet, electricity, and functional restrooms. They argue that given the heavy workload, the position should be recognized as technical and supported with necessary digital tools.
