A New Initiative to Improve Highway Sanitation
Driving across national highways and expressways in the country is not only becoming smoother, but it can now also help you earn some money. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a unique and highly practical step to address common travel grievances. Travelers often face immense inconvenience due to unhygienic and poorly maintained restrooms along long-distance routes. To provide a permanent solution to this issue, the Clean Toilet Picture Challenge has been rolled out under a special campaign by the Ministry of Road Transport.
The primary objective of this new drive is to ensure high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all public facilities situated along national highways. If you frequently travel by car or other vehicles, this initiative empowers you to become an active participant in maintaining public infrastructure rather than ignoring civic lapses.
How the Clean Toilet Picture Challenge Works
To benefit from this scheme, travelers need to follow a straightforward process. If you encounter a dirty restroom within the jurisdiction of a toll plaza or highway facility during your journey, you can take immediate action using your smartphone. Users must have the latest version of the Rajmarg Yatra app installed. Through this application, you are required to capture a clear, geo-tagged photograph of the unhygienic restroom featuring a valid timestamp.
Along with the photograph, users must submit essential details including their name, exact location, active mobile number, and vehicle registration number. Once the authorities verify the authenticity of the complaint, the reporting traveler will be rewarded with a cash prize of one thousand rupees.
Saving Toll Tax with the Fastag Annual Pass
To make road travel more affordable, NHAI offers a comprehensive Fastag Annual Pass option for frequent commuters. Regular travelers often spend a substantial amount on toll taxes. By making a single consolidated payment, users can pass through more than 1,150 designated toll plazas across national highways and expressways up to a specific limit annually.
This pass significantly reduces recurring transaction hassles and helps commuters manage their travel budgets efficiently. Authorities recommend checking route applicability and active zones before embarking on long interstate journeys.
Enhanced Safety Measures for Winter and Foggy Conditions
With the onset of the winter season and potential low-visibility conditions, disaster management and transport departments have stepped up highway safety preparations. Adequate patrolling vehicles, ambulances, and rescue teams are being positioned near accident-prone locations to handle emergencies promptly.
Routine checks of reflective markers, cat's eyes, directional signboards, and lane markings are being enforced strictly to ensure drivers can easily navigate boundaries during dense fog. Law enforcement agencies are also cracking down on unfit vehicles and unauthorized transport modifications to prevent potential road mishaps.
