Midnight Vehicle Check Leads to Armed Encounter
In a significant breakthrough against habitual offenders, the Uttar Pradesh police in Etawah district successfully intercepted a notorious criminal during a late-night vehicle checking drive. The operation took place near Padiyapura village on the Bharthana-Bidhuna road under the Bharthana police station jurisdiction. Law enforcement agencies had intensified patrolling following a recent surge in robbery incidents in the region.
During routine surveillance, a police team signaled a speeding black motorcycle approaching from the Etawah side to halt. Instead of complying with the directive, the rider attempted to flee by accelerating away. When officers closed in to secure the perimeter, the situation escalated rapidly into an armed confrontation, testing the tactical readiness of the local police force.
Retaliatory Action Leaves Suspect Wounded
Realizing he was cornered, the motorcycle-borne suspect opened direct fire on the police party with the intent to inflict fatal injuries. Exercising their right to self-defense, the police team returned fire with precision, injuring the suspect in his left leg below the knee. The wounded individual immediately lost control of his vehicle and fell to the ground.
Officers quickly overpowered the injured man and arranged for his immediate transfer to the Community Health Center in Bharthana under strict security surveillance. Medical professionals confirmed that his injuries were non-fatal and that he was stable. Forensic experts were subsequently dispatched to examine the crime scene and collect vital ballistic evidence.
Recovery of Illegal Firearms and Stolen Cash
Subsequent searches conducted by the investigating team led to the recovery of several incriminating items from the possession of the accused. Authorities recovered a country-made .315 bore firearm, live cartridges, an empty shell casing, and the motorcycle used in the commission of the crimes. Additionally, a cash amount of 700 rupees, identified as part of the loot from a recent robbery involving a local woman, was also recovered.
The seized property and weapons have been formally entered into the case diary at the Bharthana police station to support ongoing legal proceedings. Investigators noted that the recovery provides concrete links between the accused and several pending warrants in the district.
Extensive Criminal Record Across Multiple Districts
The apprehended individual was identified as Anuj Shakya, a resident of Rampura Shamsherganj in the Kishni police station area of Mainpuri district. Background checks conducted across state databases revealed a long history of criminal involvement spanning multiple districts including Etawah, Mainpuri, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, and Auraiya.
Police records indicate that the suspect is implicated in more than thirty serious criminal cases, ranging from armed robbery and theft to attempted murder, illegal arms possession, kidnapping, and provisions under the stringent Gangster Act. Law enforcement agencies are now probing his potential connections to larger interstate criminal syndicates.
Official Stance and Next Steps in Investigation
Senior police officials inspected the site of the encounter and briefed local units on maintaining high vigilance. Rural Superintendent of Police Shrish Chandra briefed reporters regarding the operation, emphasizing the department's firm resolve to eradicate organized crime from the region.
