Major Relief for Vehicle Owners: Clear Pending Traffic Challans at National Lok Adalat
Traffic challans issued due to minor overspeeding or parking errors often turn into a persistent headache for vehicle owners. If you are struggling with a pile of pending fines and want to get rid of them affordably, a significant opportunity is coming up. The Delhi State Legal Services Authority, in collaboration with Delhi Traffic Police, is organizing a National Lok Adalat across all district courts in the capital.
Scheduled for October 25, this judicial initiative aims to help citizens resolve old and pending traffic challans amicably. Magistrates have the authority to considerably reduce fine amounts or completely waive them based on individual cases, saving citizens from prolonged court procedures and heavy financial burdens.
Timing, Locations, and Rules for Challan Settlement
The Lok Adalat will be conducted across seven major district court complexes in Delhi, operating from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Eligible traffic challans issued up to June 30 can be brought forward for settlement in this special drive. According to established guidelines, a vehicle owner is permitted to settle a maximum of seven pending challans in a single session.
Citizens must acquire token numbers from the respective court premises beforehand to streamline the process and avoid long waiting hours. Carrying proper vehicle documents, including registration certificates and driving licenses, is mandatory for a smooth settlement.
Exceptions: Which Challans Cannot Be Settled?
While minor traffic violations can easily be resolved, serious offenses remain strictly outside the purview of the Lok Adalat. Cases involving drunk driving, severe accidents, stunt driving, or criminal investigations tied to an FIR will follow standard legal procedures rather than Lok Adalat waivers. Vehicle owners are advised to verify their challan categories before heading to the court premises.
