Cruise Missile Aimed at Holy City of Madinah Intercepted, Houthis Deny Involvement

Tensions in the Middle East have escalated further following reports of a major attack targeting the holy city of Madinah. According to Saudi authorities, a cruise missile heading towards Madinah was successfully intercepted and destroyed mid-air by the air defense systems. Additionally, another potential attack in the eastern part of the country was successfully thwarted.

Attack on Madinah and Security Measures

The Saudi-led coalition issued an official statement confirming that a cruise missile was intercepted over the Madinah province and destroyed. However, the initial statement did not explicitly name the perpetrator behind the attack. In Islam, Madinah is revered as the holy city where Prophet Muhammad established the Muslim community, making security breaches here a matter of grave concern.

Houthi Denials and Ongoing Tensions

Meanwhile, Yemen's Houthi rebels have categorically denied any involvement in the missile attack on Madinah. Houthi military spokesperson Brigadier General Yahya Saree dismissed the allegations, stating that the group had previously committed not to target Saudi Arabia's holy cities and airports. Despite these denials, repeated attacks near sacred locations continue to complicate the regional geopolitical landscape.

Impact on Aviation Services

The security threats and resulting defensive maneuvers have severely disrupted flight operations. Operations at the international airport in the capital, Riyadh, were temporarily suspended. According to flight tracking platform Flightradar24, dozens of flights at Jeddah airport were also delayed or cancelled due to security alerts.
