Political rhetoric in Punjab has intensified around key governance issues as leaders from major political parties locked horns in a recent high-profile debate. Representatives from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and the Indian National Congress debated pressing concerns such as the drug menace, employment, education, and healthcare.
BJP Targets AAP Over Drug Menace
Senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Tarun Chugh launched a scathing attack on the ruling AAP government, describing the drug crisis in Punjab as a 'monster' devouring the state's youth. Chugh alleged that despite tall claims, the drug problem has only escalated under the current administration.
The BJP leader announced a firm deadline, stating that his party is committed to completely eradicating drugs from Punjab by December 31, 2029, and possesses a concrete roadmap to achieve this goal.
AAP Highlights Budget Hikes and Governance
Defending the state government, AAP Lok Sabha MP Malvinder Singh Kang emphasized that the current administration has delivered 'politics of work.' He claimed that the education and health budgets have seen significant increases of 57% and 60%, respectively. Kang also highlighted a nearly 13-fold increase in the sports budget and pointed to the provision of over 73,000 government jobs for the state's youth.
Congress Criticizes 'Ad-Driven Governance'
Congress leader Captain Sandeep Sandhu criticized the AAP government, alleging that substantial funds are being diverted toward advertisements and propaganda in other states rather than addressing ground realities. Sandhu pointed to ongoing protests by government employees and highlighted challenges in the agricultural and power sectors, asserting that synthetic drugs and rehabilitation remain unaddressed major challenges.
