The Congress party has intensified its stance against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar. The political controversy, which began over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists and changes to Form-6, has now reached its peak. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and leaders of the 'INDIA' bloc staged a massive protest march from the Congress office to the doors of the Supreme Court.
This opposition resistance has unfolded in a well-planned, phased manner, taking the movement from the streets to the judiciary. The aggressive stance signals that the opposition is not willing to compromise on the neutrality of the electoral process ahead of upcoming assembly elections.
Phase 1: Protests from Parliament to Rashtrapati Bhavan
Opposition MPs raised their voices over alleged 'vote theft' and discrepancies in voter lists. Marching from Parliament, leaders protested against the functioning of the Election Commission. When stopped by police, leaders staged a sit-in near Akashvani and later met the President to submit a memorandum containing details of the alleged threats to democracy.
Phase 2: Satyagraha at Rajghat
To give the movement a moral and ideological foundation, opposition leaders moved to Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat. Led by Rahul Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs gathered to take a pledge for the protection of democratic rights, sending a strong message that the fight is not merely political but a moral crusade.
