A shocking and tragic incident has emerged from Bihar, where a young newlywed woman died under suspicious circumstances just months after her wedding. The case has sparked intense outrage, with the victim's family taking a dramatic step to protest her death by performing her final rites directly at the doorstep of her in-laws' house.
Allegations of Dowry Harassment and Mystery Death
The incident revolves around 19-year-old Gunja Kumari, who had married Kundan Kumar in January earlier this year following a relationship. According to the victim's family, the couple had not even completed a year of marriage when they received a late-night call informing them of Gunja's sudden demise. The grieving family immediately rushed to the location, alleging that the in-laws were attempting to quietly dispose of the body and fled the scene upon seeing them.
The victim's relatives claimed there were deep marks on Gunja's neck, raising strong suspicions of foul play and murder. They alleged that she was consistently harassed and tortured for dowry ever since the wedding.
Why the Last Rites at the In-Laws' Doorstep?
Following police intervention, the body was sent for a post-mortem examination. Once the autopsy was completed and the body handed over, the furious family members decided to place the funeral pyre at the main entrance of the in-laws' residence, demanding immediate justice and the arrest of the culprits.
Based on a formal complaint filed by the victim's father, local authorities have registered an FIR against four individuals, including the husband, his brother, sister, and sister-in-law, under charges of dowry death. Forensic teams have also inspected the crime scene to gather evidence. Police stated that the exact cause of death will be definitively confirmed once the final post-mortem and investigative reports are released, while continuous raids are underway to apprehend the absconding suspects.
