Gurugram Society Power Bill Scam: CM Saini Orders Audit After Arbitrary Billing Complaints

The Haryana government has taken a strict stance on complaints regarding power bills in Gurugram's high-rise societies. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed power distribution companies to make the billing process in group housing societies transparent and ensure quick resolution of residents' issues. He has instructed electricity department officials to hold meetings with RWAs to listen to and resolve their grievances.

Audit of ATS Triumph Society Bills

An investigation into power billing has been ordered at ATS Triumph Society located in Sector 104, Gurugram. A comprehensive audit of electricity bills from May 2019 to date has been ordered. More than 300 families live in this society. The purpose of the probe is to ascertain whether residents were charged as per rules for electricity consumption. If overcharging is confirmed during the audit, the concerned developer and other responsible parties may have to refund the extra amount. South Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN) will play a crucial role in this investigation.

The organization stated that potential technical flaws and data gaps in the software could lead to billing discrepancies, putting an economic burden on residents and societies. They demanded a three-month testing period and relief from punitive actions for software-related errors during the initial six months.

Strict Actions on Incorrect Bills

The Chief Minister also instructed officials to make helplines more effective for the swift redressal of electricity bill complaints, saving residents from frequent visits to power offices. Emphasis was also laid on ensuring uninterrupted power supply in industrial areas.
