Retired IAS Officer Murder: Accused Varun Kumar Still Missing After 13 Days, Police Search Across Five States

Thirteen days after the shocking murder of retired IAS officer Rakesh Agarwal, the Bhopal Police are yet to capture the absconding prime suspect, Varun Kumar. The manhunt for the accused has been extended across five states, and a cash reward of Rs 50,000 has been announced for any information leading to his arrest.

Entered the House Through a Placement Agency

According to police investigations, Varun Kumar had joined the retired IAS officer's household as a domestic help through a placement agency on September 27. Shortly after starting work, the tragic incident took place, and the accused has been absconding ever since. CCTV footage from the Bhopal Railway Station captured him roaming the premises at 3:51 AM, but his subsequent whereabouts remain unknown despite extensive scanning of transit routes.

Lack of Mobile Phone Usage Poses a Major Challenge

Additional Police Commissioner Shailendra Singh Chauhan stated that police have interrogated over 100 relatives, friends, and acquaintances of the accused. However, investigating officers discovered that Varun did not use a mobile phone and rarely communicated with his family or friends, making digital tracking extremely difficult for the police force.

Multi-State Manhunt and Distinctive Scorpion Tattoo

The search has now spread beyond Madhya Pradesh into states like Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, and Haryana. Posters featuring the accused have been put up at over 80 locations between Agra and Vrindavan. To aid public identification, police highlighted a distinctive scorpion-like tattoo on his neck. Authorities are also investigating a potential ₹1 crore financial fraud angle linked to the case to uncover the actual motive behind the murder.
