Political temperatures have soared in Rajasthan over the state's economic future and employment scenario. During the 'Panchayat Aaj Tak Rajasthan' session titled ‘Will Rajasthan Become an Employment Hub?’, a fierce debate unfolded between Rajasthan State Finance Commission Chairman Dr. Arun Chaturvedi and Congress leader Krishna Poonia. While Chaturvedi defended the BJP government's track record on job creation and bringing investments to the ground, Poonia launched a scathing attack, questioning the actual ground reality of these promises.
Claims on Water, Power, and Investments
Initiating the discussion, Dr. Arun Chaturvedi asserted that Rajasthan is steadily moving forward in the category of developing states and efforts are underway to make the state fully developed. Highlighting long-standing challenges, he noted that the availability of water and electricity has historically been a major hurdle. Although Rajasthan caters to about 10 percent of the nation's population with only one percent of its water resources, recent policies over the past three years have driven progress toward self-reliance in water and power.
On the employment front, Chaturvedi emphasized that job creation must be viewed through both government and private lenses. He claimed the BJP fulfilled its election manifesto promise by generating over 1.83 lakh government jobs so far, with another one lakh appointments under process. Regarding investments, out of Rs 35 lakh crore worth of MoUs signed during the 'Rising Rajasthan' summit, around Rs 9 lakh crore worth of projects are being actively translated to the ground, which will spawn new industrial clusters and job opportunities.
Congress Questions Ground Realities and Transparency
Countering these claims, Congress leader Krishna Poonia argued that merely quoting massive investment figures is insufficient. She demanded concrete data on how many industries actually commenced operations and how many local youths benefited from them. Poonia also pointed to the escalating costs and rushed inauguration of the Rajasthan refinery, demanding answers regarding safety incidents and operational transparency.
The sparring extended to unemployment rates, recruitment transparency, and paper leak controversies from previous administrations. While the BJP blamed the former Congress government for widespread paper leaks across multiple exams, the opposition retorted that recruitment exams and procedural appointments have often been politicized. Both leaders remained at loggerheads over accountability, youth aspirations, and the true benefits of the 'double-engine' government framework for Rajasthan.
