Political tensions in the national capital escalated further as the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) ordered the closure of the iconic Central Park in Connaught Place for two days. The move comes right ahead of the 'Lahara Do Tiranga' march announced by Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke.
NDMC Order and Administrative Reasons
According to the official notice issued by the NDMC, Central Park remained closed for the general public on October 16 and 17 due to administrative reasons. The directive, issued by an NDMC director, triggered widespread discussion and heightened security deployment across the commercial hub.
High Court Plea and CJP's Stance
Earlier, a petition was filed in the Delhi High Court by street vendors and shopkeepers of Palika Bazar seeking to halt the march. Petitioners argued that Central Park is not a designated protest site and that heavy barricading and restrictions would disrupt commercial activities, pedestrian movement, and traffic. However, the Delhi High Court declined to stay the march.
Core Demands Behind the March
CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke called for the march to press demands including the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, concerns over names allegedly dropped from voter lists, and institutional accountability. Urging civil society and political outfits to join, Dipke emphasized that hoisting the national flag is not a crime.
