Tensions in premier higher educational institutions over student protests have surfaced once again. In a significant disciplinary development, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) has taken stern action following an aggressive campus agitation, alleged vandalism, and violent altercation with security personnel at its Kashmere Gate premises. The administration has suspended 10 students with immediate effect and debarred them from entering the campus grounds.
Action Follows CCTV Scrutiny and Proctorial Report
According to an official statement issued by university authorities, the punitive measure was enforced after examining the events of October 13. The administration reviewed the primary findings submitted by the proctorial board alongside comprehensive CCTV footage and other visual documentation recorded during the protest.
The university clarified that the suspension will remain active pending the conclusion of a formal inquiry. The entire dossier has been referred to the Proctorial Board and the Disciplinary Committee for an exhaustive and impartial probe, which will determine subsequent academic and legal repercussions.
Allegations of Property Damage and Assault on Security Guards
University officials stated that a gathering of students had assembled without requisite permissions in an unauthorized zone of the campus. As the evening progressed, the assembly reportedly escalated into unrest, resulting in damage to institutional property.
When on-duty security staff intervened to de-escalate the confrontation, several demonstrators allegedly engaged in physical scuffles. The administration asserted that both male and female security guards were physically assaulted and administrative officers who attempted constructive dialogue were subjected to verbal abuse. Sensing threats to safety and institutional order, campus authorities subsequently informed the local police.
Zero Tolerance for Disruption of Academic Atmosphere
Reiterating its official stance, the university noted that all legitimate and procedural demands raised by students had already been addressed through appropriate forums. The administration maintained that disruption of the educational environment, vandalism, and violence against campus personnel will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining a safe learning space for students, faculty, and administrative staff, promising that the pending disciplinary inquiry will adhere strictly to statutory guidelines and established institutional statutes.
