The national capital has turned into a virtual fortress amid a surge of intense political protests led by the opposition INDIA bloc. To maintain law and order and prevent any untoward incidents, the deployment of central security forces is being significantly ramped up. According to official sources, 50 additional companies of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) are being rushed to Delhi.

Force Strength Reaches 20,000 Personnel

According to reports, these additional companies will assist the Delhi Police in managing law and order across sensitive areas. Prior to this, roughly 150 CAPF companies were already stationed in the capital. With the addition of these 50 new companies, the total deployment will now cross 200 companies, bringing approximately 20,000 security personnel onto the streets to maintain public order.

Sources indicate that the Delhi Police formally requested additional central forces keeping in view the series of ongoing protests, sit-ins, and upcoming public events in the city.

Background of Political Tensions

Tensions have been running high as INDIA bloc leaders continue their agitation demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and protesting against the special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists. Recently, opposition leaders led by Rahul Gandhi attempted a march towards Jantar Mantar, which was halted by the police near Ashok Road citing prohibitory orders under BNS Section 163.

The standoff led to minor scuffles and the temporary detention of several leaders, including Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. The opposition has vowed to continue its democratic protests, prompting authorities to maintain an ironclad security grid across the capital.
