When protectors of the law flout rules, the irony often catches up in unexpected ways. A striking case has emerged from Rajasthan where a former woman jailer found herself behind bars—in the exact same prison where she once served as the in-charge.
From Jail In-Charge to Inmate
The controversy surrounds former jail in-charge Divya Chaudhary, who was accused of misusing her official position. According to the police, she allegedly took two female inmates out of the prison in violation of rules and brought them to her private residence. Despite opposition from some prison staff, the inmates were reportedly made to carry out cleaning and domestic chores at her residence.
Following a formal complaint by the central jail superintendent, an investigation was launched. While a female guard allegedly involved in the incident faced scrutiny, Chaudhary went into hiding to evade arrest, prompting authorities to form a special team to track her down.
Technical Surveillance Leads to Arrest
Utilizing technical evidence, intelligence inputs, and CCTV footage, police tracked the absconding former jailer to an apartment in Kota. A special police team raided the premises and apprehended her. Authorities have registered cases under relevant sections of the prison act and penal code, while further investigations into the roles of other accomplices remain ongoing.
