Shocking: Elderly Man Declared Dead in Government Records, Runs from Pillar to Post for Pension

Administrative apathy often brings to light bizarre stories that expose flaws in the grassroots machinery. In a recent incident from Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, a 68-year-old farmer was marked 'dead' in official records, depriving him of crucial government welfare schemes. Realizing that he was officially dead while still breathing, the elderly man began a long battle to prove his existence.

Two Years of Running from Pillar to Post

The victim, Ramkhelavan, resides in the Atarra tehsil region. He stated that his old-age pension and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi payments were abruptly stopped two years ago. Despite approaching the village head, secretary, block office, tehsil, and development authority multiple times, officials continued to treat him as deceased in the database.

Ramkhelavan suffers from hearing impairment and finds it extremely difficult to walk without support. Government assistance was his primary source of sustenance. Without pension funds, meeting everyday basic needs has become a monumental challenge for him.

DM Office Intervenes with Probe

Exhausted by the apathy of local functionaries, Ramkhelavan finally reached the District Magistrate's office to seek intervention. Moved by his plight, officials assured him of an immediate inquiry. Block Development Officer (BDO) Dhanraj confirmed that the matter is under investigation, and strict accountability will be fixed against any official found negligent.
