Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has launched a sharp political attack on the Congress party, criticizing its double standards regarding electoral revision processes and demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Referencing historical political events, CM Yadav reminded the opposition of the times when they themselves involved high-profile constitutional figures in electoral battles.
Recalling the Past: TN Seshan's Electoral Battle
Addressing a public gathering in Narsinghpur, CM Yadav stated that when Congress wins states like Kerala and Himachal Pradesh, the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process appears completely valid to them. However, suffering defeats elsewhere leads them to question constitutional bodies. He specifically pointed out that the Congress party had fielded former Chief Election Commissioner T.N. Seshan against veteran BJP leader Lal K. Advani.
For context, T.N. Seshan had contested the 1999 Lok Sabha elections from Gandhinagar as a Congress-backed candidate against Advani. The Chief Minister asserted that those who today question the impartiality of the Election Commission must first introspect regarding their own historical decisions and political compromises.
Accusations of Political Hegemony
Continuing his tirade, CM Yadav also referenced the 1990s era, claiming that renowned IPS officer K.P. Gill, who helped curb terrorism in Punjab, was also dragged into political optics during previous regimes. He alleged that after independence, political authority became centralized around a single family, treating national leadership as a hereditary prerogative.
The Chief Minister warned that any form of political anarchy under the guise of protests against independent constitutional institutions like the Election Commission will not be tolerated by the public or the governance framework.
