Passenger Carrying 36 Lakh Worth Silver in Backpack Arrested at Railway Station

Law enforcement agencies at railway stations continuously run special drives to curb illegal transport of valuables and criminal activities. In a recent operation at a major railway junction in Bihar, the railway police apprehended a passenger carrying a massive cache of silver hidden inside a backpack, triggering a thorough tax evasion probe.

Suspicious Movement Triggers Police Action

According to officials, the railway police were patrolling Platform No. 6 under the ongoing 'Operation Satark' aimed at tightening security. During the patrol, they noticed a traveler carrying a heavy rucksack on his back, moving swiftly toward the exit. His hurried demeanor and suspicious body language prompted security personnel to intercept him for a random check.

Upon inspecting his bag, officers were stunned to find 14.835 kilograms of silver jewelry and pieces neatly packed inside. The estimated market value of the seized silver is around Rs 36 lakh. The passenger was immediately taken into custody for further questioning.

Lack of Documentation Leads to Income Tax Probe

When asked to present bills, GST receipts, or transit documents for the precious metal, the traveler failed to produce any valid paperwork. During interrogation, he identified himself as Jamshed Ali Malik, a resident of West Bengal. He admitted that he was transporting the silver to West Bengal for commercial sale.

Station authorities stated that transporting such a large quantity of precious metal without proper documentation points toward tax evasion and illegal transit. The silver has been confiscated, and the Income Tax Department has been formally notified to investigate the money trail and tax compliance. Police are currently tracing the exact source from where the silver was procured.
