A major political and legal tussle has erupted in Bihar as senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Kundan Krishnan has served a defamation legal notice to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MP Sudhakar Singh. The notice demands an unconditional public apology within 15 days, warning of a civil suit seeking Rs 5 crore in damages and criminal defamation proceedings if the demand is not met.
Controversy Linked to Deaths and Police Operations
According to the legal notice issued through advocate Apoorv Harsh, the controversy stems from statements made by the MP regarding certain high-profile police operations and deaths. The notice highlights a press conference held by MP Sudhakar Singh on June 24 following the death of one Bharat Bhushan Tiwari during a police operation in Bhojpur district on June 17, where serious allegations were leveled against police officials, including Kundan Krishnan.
Furthermore, the notice cites an interview given by the MP on September 22 to a private news portal, where he questioned the police handling of an incident involving a minor girl in Jamui and made disparaging remarks against the senior police officer. The legal notice terms these allegations as entirely baseless, fabricated, and damaging to the officer's professional reputation.
MP Refuses to Apologize, Vows Legal Response
Reacting to the legal notice, RJD MP Sudhakar Singh stated that he will not bow down to legal threats and will respond to the notice legally. He maintained that he raised the issues in public interest and demanded a thorough probe into the command and decision-making hierarchy of the police force during the tenure of the concerned officers.
The notice has explicitly asked the lawmaker to refrain from repeating allegations regarding patronage to land mafias, liquor syndicates, or staged encounters. As both sides dig in their heels, this high-stakes confrontation between the executive and the legislature is expected to escalate further.
